Experimenting social housing in a low density context, while creating opportunities for social and economic revival
The project stems from the Housing Programme of Compagnia San Paolo, entrusted with a private property in the town of Crescentino, in the Vercelli Province. The local existing context bears witness to the increase of problems deriving from social want and housing emergency, as a consequence of the gradual closing down of the town industrial sector. The selected building suffered from aggressive arrearage cases associated with a progressive degradation of the property. To some extent, the situation was buffered by an agreement with Crescentino Town Council. However, the agreement failed to set the conditions for social stability and economic sustainability.
